A drab 0-0 draw with Portsmouth, who have been beset by financial problems once more this season, at Fratton Park last weekend that would have left the travelling fans feeling a little flat.
That draw left them in 10th place, four points adrift of Cardiff who occupy the final play-off spot. However, victory over a high-flying Southampton side would not only hand them three valuable points, but also give them the momentum they need to turn their season around.
Adkins opted to drop January signing Billy Sharp for the game against Watford but may opt to recall the striker for the trip to Elland Road.
Leeds meanwhile will be able to call up on striker Danny Webber after securing his services on loan for the remainder of the season. They could throw him in at the deep end after firing a blank last time round against Portsmouth.
Overall, this is a game that Warnock and Leeds will relish. Southampton will be determined to prove their class though, so it should be a cracker.
