Given the way the play-offs work, Leicester – the team that finished in sixth – come into this one in much better spirits as they scored a last minute winner against Nottingham Forest to move into the top six.

Watford, on the other hand would have reached the automatic promotion places if they had of beaten Leeds United in their final game of the season, but they lost 2-1 and now Gianfranco Zola has a massive job on his hands to lift spirits in the squad.

The Foxes are going to be on a high and the bookmakers have them as the 23/20 favourites to win this first leg.

Nigel Pearson’s men were the team that were the least likely to make the play-offs on the final day, but after a few months of poor form and bad results, they produced a winning performance when there was big pressure on and fans will be expecting another massive display this evening.

The King Power is sure to be rocking this evening and with the quality of players in their squad, Leicester are going to be confident they can take the spoils.

The hosts do have plenty of attacking talent in their squad and although Chris Wood hasn’t been scoring goals as regularly as when he first joined the club, he is still the favourite to break the deadlock this evening at 11/2.

Leicester did lose 2-1 at home to Watford last month in the league, so they know how strong their opposition can be and won’t be at all complacent. Pearson will want a lead to take into the second leg.

As for Watford, they were bitterly disappointed not to have finished in the top two, but Zola should remind his men of what a superb campaign they have and that they still have a great chance of reaching the Premier League.

The Hornets have earned themselves a lot of plaudits for the way they play their football and they are sure to come to Leicester tonight and attack right from the off.

As mentioned, they have the knowhow on this ground and finished nine points ahead of the Foxes in the Championship, which should give them confidence of a victory this evening.

If they do come out on top, the Londoners would take a massive step towards the final at Wembley and they might prove to be decent value at 11/4.

Much like Chris Wood, Matej Vydra has had an excellent campaign, but hasn’t been at his best in recent weeks. He can be backed at 6/1 to return to form and score the first goal here.

These play-off matches are one of the highlights of the season for many football fans and this should be a cracking encounter from 7.45pm this evening.
