There is one game on Friday night and it is a mid-table clash between Saint-Etienne and Rennes.

Their seasons hang somewhat in the balance as they could end up in the top five by the final whistle, or finish the weekend well in the bottom half with a defeat. Rennes are the form side, winning three games out of three in the top flight.

The majority of games then take place on Saturday evening, but there is one afternoon kick-off and that sees Valenciennes travel to Lille and the visitors have a massive incentive to grab the points as they could move into the top four this weekend.

Paris Saint Germain moved to the top of the table last time out and they are away to a Nancy that sit rock bottom, so nothing other than an away win is expected here. Nancy will know there are no tougher teams to play in Ligue 1 right now than PSG.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Sochaux v Evian is a battle between two teams looking as though they are relegation candidates this season.

Also, Montpellier and Nice will both be looking to kick-start their campaign when they meet, whilst Reims host Troyes and Brest travel to a Toulouse side in fourth place.

Then on Sunday, Lorient are at home to Ajaccio and Bordeaux head to Bastia. These four teams all sit between sixth and thirteenth place, so are all searching for points to move further up the table.

The final game on Sunday afternoon is then the pick of the fixtures this weekend as Marseille, who sit in second host Lyon – who are in third. The home team will know just what is needed of them with PSG playing on Saturday and they need to bounce back from their defeat last time out.

Lyon can overhaul their opponents though, so will also be coming all out for the win, which should make for a superb 90 minutes and round off the Ligue 1 weekend perfectly.
