Manchester City face some major competition for current strike target Douglas Costa who currently plays for Ukrainian Champions League side Shakhtar Donetsk.
Manchester United remain the main competition who according to certain newspapers had a bid turned down in 2009 when the youngster was playing for Gremio, however Liverpool are also in the mix for a player who was once dubbed the “new Ronaldo”.
The 20 year old has shown great promise over the last 24 months and remains a player that many of Europe’s top clubs are monitoring closely. The question will remain on price however, as depending on the amount of interest by the Manchester clubs and Liverpool it is likely to bump his price tag up much higher than the €6m that Shakhtar Donetsk first paid for him in 2010.
Should Shakhtar feel they can make enough profit on the youngster despite only having just signed a five year contract they may well decide that Costa can move on however should their Champions League campaign prove much more successful than their current quarter final position then the possibility of keeping the Brazilian in the Ukraine may prove too valuable to let go at such an early stage in his contract
For Liverpool and both Manchester clubs a bidding war could be on the horizon and it is likely that either of the three will need to move very early during the next window to get their man.
