Liverpool Arsenal Odds : Gunners looking the value after impressive Spurs win

Liverpool and Arsenal go up against each other at Anfield  on Saturday hoping to build on successful weekends last time round and further their respective top four challenges, as bookmakers make Arsenal 3/1 to shock the Reds.

Before Liverpool claimed their first piece of silverware since the 2006 FA Cup with a tense Carling Cup final victory over Cardiff on Sunday, Arsenal fought back from 2-0 down in the north London derby against Tottenham to secure a 5-2 win that moved them into the top four.

Now they have a chance to finish their season on a positive note after criticism and controversy rocked both clubs throughout the course of this campaign.

Liverpool sit seven points off of Arsenal in the final Champions League qualification spot, although they have a game in hand, and a win on Sunday will do no end of good as they look to end their exodus from European football’s premier competition.

They may have to do it without their talisman however after Steven Gerrard limped off after just 33 minutes in England’s friendly against the Netherlands on Wednesday having played the full 120 minutes against Cardiff three days before.

Daniel Agger is also a doubt having been forced off the pitch during the Carling Cup final, with Jamie Carragher ready to step into the breach if the Dane is unable to make it in time for the game.

Arsenal were given a real scare during the week as well as reports from the Netherlands camp revealed leading scorer Robin van Persie was forced to sit out the final part of training ahead of the game against England.

However the Dutch forward played the first half at Wembley and should be fit t, while Per Mertesacker is still out with an ankle injury. On a brighter note, Aaron Ramsey may return having missed the North London derby as Arsenal look to consolidate their place int the top four.

Overall, this should be a cracking contest and it gets underway on Saturday lunch-time.
