Liverpool face Bayer Leverkusen with one eye on Community Shield as Premiership kickoff awaits

Liverpool complete their preparations for the new Premier League season this weekend when they take on Bayer Leverkusen in their final pre-season friendly match, as Ladbrokes launch their new free bet offer and report the latest Premiership odds, as Man City and Chelsea face each other in the Community or Charity Shield.

New manager Brendan Rodgers is still assessing his squad of course as he tries to get them playing the passing football his Swansea City side were famous for last term. Much will depend on new signing Fabio Borini, who has arrived from Roma, as Rogers looks to fill the void of Andy Carroll’s lacklustre goal  scoring form.

Therefore, it is one of the most important pre-season campaigns in many years for Liverpool.

In terms of the results so far, it has been a reasonably mixed pre-season for Rodgers and his team. However, they have tested themselves against some strong teams and as ever, not too much can be read into results at this stage of proceedings.

However, they would love to click into gear for this weekend’s match. This needs to be where some of Rodgers ideas come together positively on the pitch. You don’t want to be learning still come the first game of the season.

As for Bayer Leverkusen, they will be keen to find some form ahead of another tough Bundesliga campaign. Finishing 5th last time out, this season they will be aiming to push on and challenge for a place in the top four.

They appeared to have hit the ground running in pre-season, with a 7-1 victory against Frankfurt on Wednesday evening. It is always good to find the back of the net regularly in pre-season and they will hope this form continues in the coming months.

Overall, this friendly has a very competitive feel to it. Both clubs have similar ambitions in their respective domestic leagues and with this being the final game before the season starts for real, this will be much more than a test of fitness.

It is 90 minutes of seeing whether the team is in decent shape ahead of the new campaign, not only in terms of fitness, but tactics and mentality. It gets underway from 3pm on Sunday afternoon.
