Liverpool boss insists talisman is as threatening as ever

Kenny Dalglish has shrugged off claims that club captain, Steven Gerrard, is no longer the player he was several years ago.

The claims arose after the 31 year-old has had to miss seven months through a groin injury, and it isn’t the first time an injury has kept the midfielder out for a long period.

Despite this, the Liverpool manager says that his superstar international is as good as ever and can only strengthen his side.

The Scot noted: “If you have got someone like Steven in your squad, it is going to raise the profile and the standard.”

He went on to say: “There are players who you will always appreciate for what they have done for the football club and he has done as much for the club as anyone else.”
