Liverpool are reportedly set to make a move for prolific CSKA Moscow striker Seydou Doumbia when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Reds boss Kenny Dalglish is desperate to bolster his striking options at Anfield and find a suitable partner for Luis Suarez with £35 million record signing Andy Carroll failing to live up to expectations.
It’s now thought that the 60-year-old is lining up a bid for Ivory Coast international Doumbia who has scored a phenomenal 43 goals in 56 games for CSKA.
The 23-year-old enjoyed a similarly bountiful spell in Switzerland with Young Boys before moving to Russia in 2010 where he has forged a reputation as a powerful striker with a keen eye for goal.
Despite measuring up at just under six feet Dalglish has been impressed by Doumbia’s physical presence on the field and believes he can forge a deadly partnership with Uruguayan Suarez.
However there is the small matter of a transfer fee and after spending over £100 million since returning to the Liverpool dugout in January and it’s not yet known what kind of transfer kitty owner John W. Henry will allow Dalglish.
That could potentially scupper any chances of bringing the forward to Merseyside with the Russian Premier League side thought to be demanding around £25 million for his services.
