Brendan Rodgers take his first steps into the transfer market since being appointed Liverpool boss with moves for attacking duo Clint Dempsey and Fabio Borini
The Northern Irishman took over from Kenny Dalglish at the beginning of June but has yet to make his first signing but is now ready to begin his recruitment process.
First on the list for Rodgers is Fulham winger Dempsey according to the Mirror with reports suggesting he will approach the West Londoners with a £7.5 million offer.
The American international enjoyed a stunning campaign scoring 22 goals but is said to be in favour of a move away from Craven Cottage in order to play European football.
With his contract running down Cottagers boss Martin Jol is prepared to sell the 29-year-old and is open to a possible exchange deal involving a number of the Reds’ fringe players.
Rodgers is keen to quickly tie up a deal for Dempsey before the Merseyside club jet off to the United States on their pre-season next week where they will face Toronto, Roma and Tottenham.
He will then move for Borini after Roma confirmed that Liverpool are interested in signing the forward who was part of the Italy squad at Euro 2012.
The 21-year-old struck nine goals in 24 games for the Serie A side who have now bought him outright after paying Parma £3.95million for the remaining 50% of the player’s rights
Borini worked closely with Rodgers at Chelsea academy and Swansea City and is thought to be keen on a return to the Premier League and could leave the Stadio Olimpico as Roma boss Zdeněk Zeman look to boost his transfer kitty.
“There is a real interest shown by Liverpool for Borini,” Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini said during Tuesday’s press conference in Roma’s pre-training camp in Riscone.
“We are evaluating the situation with (Roma general manager) Franco (Baldini).”
