Liverpool close to signing Uruguayan Copa America starlet

After a mountain of transfer speculation across Europe, it’s emerged that Uruguayan centre-back, Sebastian Coates, prefers Liverpool to be his next destination.

The Nacional defender will become the most expensive player to be exported out of Uruguay, for an initial fee of around £7m.

Coates was selected as Young Player of the tournament at this year’s Copa America as he and his compatriots marched to victory.

The 20 year-old giant comes in days after the departure of Sotirios Kyrgiakos to Wolfsburg, and is a savvy replacement in the backline, holding plenty of potential.

If Liverpool manager, Kenny Dalglish, is to make any further purchases, he will have to offload current playing staff to do so, having already spent heavily in this window.
