Liverpool considering move for European hitman

Despite 2001’s £35m signature of Andy Carroll, it’s no secret that Liverpool were keeping tabs on several strikers over the course of the January transfer window.

Although the club failed to make a move for any forward, their interest isn’t expected to wane this summer and Robert Lewandowski has reportedly been added to the shortlist.

The 23 year-old has made 31 appearances for Borussia Dortmund this season, scoring an impressive 19 goals and making nine assists in the meantime.

The Polish international spent much of last season on the bench playing second fiddle to Lucas Barrios, however the roles have now reversed and Lewandowski has become the main attacking outlet for the Bundesliga side.

The striker may feel as if his chances at Champions League football are more assured at the Westfalenstadion but that hasn’t stopped a big-name signing from occurring in the past.

Carroll hasn’t impressed at Anfield the way Kenny Dalglish would have wanted and reinforcements are being considered by the club in an effort to improve their attacking record.

Craig Bellamy may have cost the Merseysiders only a matter of millions but the Welshman has undoubtedly proved the most valuable for his money this season.

Lewandowski has also racked up 40 appearances for the Polish national team and netted on 13 of those occasions, despite being only 23.

The hitman would be expected to cost the Premier League side around £15m but if New England Sports Ventures have proven anything since their takeover last year, it’s that they are willing to invest in their machine in order for it to succeed, and funds could be readily available.
