Liverpool considering swap deal for Dutch hitman

After months of speculation linking the club with a move for the forward, Liverpool may finally make their move for Luuk de Jong in the summer.

There was talk making the rounds of Dirk Kuyt moving in the opposite direction should a deal come about, however Kenny Dalglish remains adamant that the 31 year-old still has a future to play at the club.

The Dutchman started his career in the Eredivisie playing for Utrecht and Feyenoord, and although the player might favour a return to his native homeland, Roma and Galatasaray are also said to be registering interest in his services.

De Jong has been in prolific form for FC Twente over the past year and is pushing for a spot in Holland’s Euro 2012 squad.

The forward is reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League and did not complete a winter switch in order to not put his international future in peril.

The 21 year-old has made an impressive 38 appearances for Twente already this season, scoring on 25 occasions and recording 15 assists in the process.

With funds supposedly available, de Jong could complete a move to Liverpool regardless of whether or not the club move any talent on, however Luis Suarez in another player being associated with an Anfield exit at the end of this season following his alleged racist controversy.

Should the Uruguayan depart as many are predicting, it will make de Jong’s chances of a transfer that much more likely with the Reds then requiring cover.

If the starlet were to come to Merseyside, his signature would be expected to cost around £12m but the English giants face competition from Arsenal for the Dutch international.
