A victory over Merseyside rivals, Everton, is exactly what Liverpool need to have a great start to the 2011-12 Premier League season, or so says Jose Enrique.
The Spaniard, who arrived at from Newcastle in a £6m deal this summer, has been in fine form for the Reds, linking well in down the left side of the pitch with fellow new signing, Stewart Downing.
With an international break coming the week after, Enrique thinks that such a meaningful win would put his side in the right mindset for the coming weeks.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.tv, regarding the club’s opening fixtures this campaign, Enrique said: “We had some games that were not really good, like Stoke and Tottenham, but if we get another three points this weekend it can be a very good start for us.”
The 25 year-old is confident going into the match, adding: “I know some people were a little bit scared (after defeats to Stoke and Tottenham) but it’s normal. We’ve got some new players here like me, and we have to play more games together, but it’s a nice squad and we have some good players here.”
This weekend will mark the 216th Merseyside derby but the first for Enrique, who will be hoping to get off to a successful start.
