One has to hand it to both Liverpool and Manchester United really. For Liverpool to have held such a record for such a long period of time just shows what a great club they are but for United to fight over the last twenty years to haul themselves above their Merseyside rivals is quite some feat.
The Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard however believes that the Anfield side are on the way back up and that there is now added motivation to overtake the Manchester club.
“It hurts because we held the record for so long,” said Gerrard. “Give credit where it’s due, they’ve overtaken us for the time being. But we are on our way back up and we won’t give up the fight to overtake them again, don’t worry about that. That is the motivation.”
Gerrard added.
“We can still boast about the European Cups, of course, but everyone here will be doing everything we can to get the league record back.”
Even though this season is not even over yet one can already begin licking their lips in anticipation of next season. Seriously, next season should see Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea all gunning for the title, if this season was a great race then next season will surely be nothing short of meteoric.
