Liverpool FC are considering using former Chelsea playmaker Joe Cole as a makewight in their offer to land Newcastle United defender Jose Enrique.
Enrique has been top of Liverpool’s list as a left-back for sometime but realise that he will not be allowed to leave under Alan Pardew on the cheap. The Liverpool board are therefore considering adding Cole into the mix and are hopeful Pardew may accept, having sold Kevin Nolan to West Ham United recently.
However Cole is older than Nolan was and Pardew felt it were best to sell the midfielder before he could no longer rely on him to make the performances he usually can. Should Pardew feel that Cole is perhaps in the same boat as his former midfielder then it is very possible that he will not accept Cole as part of the deal and will request a full cash transfer fee.
Should Newcastle United’s asking price not fall into Liverpool’s evaluation then they may be forced to look elsewhere.
