Liverpool FC have had an initial bid of £9.5m for Lazio forward Mauro Zarate accepted and the 24 year old is expected at Melwood on Wednesday for a medical.
The forward, who was a rumoured target of Arsenal earlier in August, was expecting to stay in Italy for a further season after Lazio refused to allow the Argentine a move on loan. However enquiries by the Liverpool early this week have proved beneficial with the Serie A side now accepting a bid.
With Liverpool currently only having two top strikers on their books, Zarate will come in offering some flexibility, being able to play as a winger and second striker. Liverpool’s initial target Craig Bellamy was in the end considered too old to be part of the long term future of the Anfield club and Dalglish’s side turned their attentions to Zarate at the end of last week.
