Reports from the South West of Germany have suggested that Dortmund defender Neven Subotic will only leave the club for a club guaranteed Champions League football next season meaning Liverpool will need to snatch at least fourth spot in the run in to land the talented 23 year old.
It had been assumed that Subotic would be the perfect long term replacement for the ageing Jamie Carragher however with the Borussia Dortmund centre-back guaranteed to have Champions League football for the club next season he will not be departing for a club that will be playing in a Europa League campaign, and that is of course only if the German club wish to sell him.
Speculation regarding the Serbian has been high with as many as three Premiership clubs interested in his signature including Chelsea, Tottenham and the Anfield club but it now seems unlikely that Merseyside will be his destination.
Dortmund were victorious on Sunday with a 3-0 win against Freiburg and with nearest rivals Bayer Leverkusen losing to Bayern Munich on the same day, a Bundesliga winners medal looks to be heading in Subotic’s direction.
