Liverpool’s up and coming midfielder Jay Spearing has claimed that the side want to be in the Europa League next season and suggests they will need to put on a repeat performance seen against Fulham on Monday night to beat Tottenham to that 5th spot.
Tottenham seem to have fallen apart at the wrong end of the season and the dropping of points has meant that they now face a battle for 5th and a win for the Reds at Anfield on Sunday will see them through with just one game remaining which could even see the North London side drop to seventh should Everton get the results they need.
Regarding Tottenham 22 year old Spearing said.
“On their day they can turn it on if they want to, the amount of players they’ve got and the standard of players they’ve got means it’s going to be a difficult game at Anfield. But we are the home team and if we play like we did against Fulham we’ll put them under pressure.”
The Liverpool midfielder who has just signed a contract extension at the club added.
“The game on Sunday is going to be massive. The Europa League is still a massive competition and Liverpool need to be attempting to win as much silverware as possible.”
