Liverpool FC are believed to be paying close attention to Uruguay international and current Napoli defensive midfielder Walter Gargano as the side continue to look for back up in that area should something happen to Lucas.
Lucas has nailed down a place in the Liverpool side as the first choice defensive midfielder however Anfield manager Kenny Dalglish has sent scouts to watch the player recently although it is unclear whether interest in the 27 year old is strong enough to warrant an offer come January.
The fact he is Uruguayan would please striker Luis Suarez who is of the same nationality and with Gargani having played for Napoli since 2007 a change of scenario may be something he would consider, especially with Liverpool starting to find their form once again and begin to aim for a top four finish.
Any deal this January would be out of the question though with Napoli making the knock out stages of the Champions League but during the summer though, an offer from Liverpool, should they finish in the top four, could be enough to tempt both club and player into an agreement.
