Liverpool looking to switch Napoli targets

After failing to make an impression at Anfield, Alberto Aquilani looks like one of the faces that will be heading for the club’s exit in 2012, and could leave in a part exchange deal.

The 27 year-old moved to Merseyside in 2009 but has played barely 12 months of football in England, spending last season on loan at Juventus.

Now, Aquilani is enjoying a similar spell at AC Milan and could be joining a fourth Italian side this summer if his proposed sale goals through.

The new deal is for a Napoli talisman but not Edinson Cavani as many have been speculating over the past two months.

Instead, the offer would include Liverpool paying around £20m cash with Aquilani exchanging places with Napoli playmaker, Marek Hamsik.

The midfielder has been linked with a move to clubs such as Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea but thus far he has failed to complete a move away from Naples as many had prophesised.

Hamsik has made 25 starts for the Serie A outfit this campaign, scoring eight goals and registering six assists.

Kenny Dalglish may have spent over £50m on midfield talent last summer but the Scot is keen to add more creative flair to his offensive line.

Steven Gerrard missed the majority of 2011 through injury and despite the England international making his longest streak in play this season, a more long-term option may be necessary as an alternative.

Aquilani came to England for a fee of around £17m and his value may have dropped but sides are reportedly still willing to pay around £12m for the midfielder.

The Italian has been restricted by injuries this term but is expected to be fit by the end of this month and could be keen on a permanent move back to his native Italy.
