Liverpool midfielder close to shock French move

Liverpool winger Joe Cole is moving closer to agreeing a season-long loan deal with French club Lille.

Cole had been linked with a move to Queens Park Rangers and Tottenham Hotspure, with a move to QPR thought to be the likely destination for the 29-year-old.

The England international only moved to Anfield last summer when he signed a four-year deal after being released from Chelsea, however had a dismal season making 11 Premier League starts and was sent off in his Kop debut.

Lille won the French league last term and have qualified for this seasons Champions League, and are now eager to strengthen their squad, especially wingers following Gervinho’s move to Arsenal earlier this summer.

Anfield manager Kenny Dalglish has told Cole he can leave the club, following midfield arrivals from Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing.

Cole has not been included in the Liverpool squad at all in their three Premier League games so far this season.
