Liverpool midfielder looking forward to first team competition

Liverpool wideman, Maxi Rodriguez, is happy with the transfer activity the club are undergoing, and despite the heavy competition, says he is ready to fight for a starting spot.

The Merseyside outfit have signed midfielders Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam this summer, and the Argentine claims he’s ‘up for the challenge’.

The 30 year-old noted: “Competition for places is always a positive thing for the club and I think it’s great that the signings who have arrived are of such high quality with a great level of skills and technique.”

With Arsenal facing Liverpool this weekend, the winger commented on the importance of a good start to new campaign, adding: “I don’t think you can stress enough the importance of the first few weeks of the season, if you can see yourself near the top of the table it’s great and the confidence that gives helps you grow as a team and as a squad.”

Rodriguez likes the direction the club is going in and told The Official Liverpool website: “A team like Liverpool has to be battling on that level and have those kind of aspirations for the season.”
