Liverpool planning Dutch double raid

FC Twente could find themselves ravaged by transfers this summer if speculation is anything to go by after it emerged that Liverpool are targeting another of their stars in the form of Ola John.

Luuk de Jong is already being monitored by the Merseysiders after having a highly impressive past 12 months with the club but John is another player who has contributed to Twente’s success this season.

Despite his age, the 19 year-old has made 40 appearances across all competitions for FC Twente this campaign, starting in 31.

The winger has made 20 assists this season as well as scoring eight goals and while De Jong has lead the attacking line well, it’s arguable that he may not have looked quite as good were it not for the constant supply line that John provides.

Since making his breakthrough in the Eredivisie over the last seven months, John has also earned the attention of Holland coach Bert van Marwijk.

After progressing through several tiers of the Netherlands youth system, van Marwijk handed John his first senior call-up earlier this year, bringing him to Wembley for the clash against England.

The youngster is only on the brinks of the national side but if he continues his current vein of form in the Dutch domestic league, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him playing in Euro 2012.

Liverpool would be wise to tie up the transfer as quickly as possible in that regard after seeing the valuations of so many stars skyrocket after playing well in international tournaments in the past.

Kenny Dalglish’s side are already understood to be in the market for a winger with the likes of Adam Johnson, Aaron Lennon and Junior Hoilett all being linked with moves to Anfield.

John currently has two years left to run on his deal at De Grolsch Veste and would be expected to carry a pricetag of around £8.5m; a fee that recent transfer windows would suggest Liverpool can afford.
