Reports flowing out of Turin are claiming that Liverpool are looking at acquiring the tenacious Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio during the summer transfer window.
The Italian 25 year old is well known for his tough tackling as well as having a powerful right foot and although he has only scored ten goals in just over 100 appearances, his ability to sit back when required is believed to have provided Liverpool with the final tick on numerous boxes.
With Liverpool previously using Xabi Alonso – to great effect – and then Mascherano in the holding positions, the Anfield side have had to use Poulsen and Lucas since. Whilst Lucas is making good headway in the midfield arena, Poulsen is a player that has failed to really get to grips in the Premiership, so much so that it would perhaps be fair to suggest he is not good enough to play for Liverpool.
Claudio Marchisio is currently highly rated in Serie A and he will not be allowed to depart Juventus cheaply with figures reported to be closed to £18m. However, as money does not seem to be too much of an object for the current Liverpool ownership where quality players are concerned, one can assume the club will certainly be in a position to pay that sort of money for the talented midfielder.
Should Marchisio decide on a move to Anfield, a club that will probably not be in the Champions League next season, and he settles in with immediate effect then the red half of Merseyside should seriously be preparing for a real title charge.
