Liverpool rekindling interest in Tottenham absentee

Despite the player’s long-term absence from the game, sources are perpetuating news once again that Liverpool are considering a move for Tottenham midfielder, Tom Huddlestone.

The English international will be returning to a crowded midfield when he comes back from injury this year and may be tempted by the move should Liverpool take the punt.

Huddlestone underwent ankle surgery in late 2011 and is hoping to make a return to action next month, making the news all that more surprising considering the player will be unable to undergo a standard medical at Anfield.

The Reds are understood to be in the market for a defensive midfielder after the ever-improving Lucas was ruled out for the remainder of the season with an ACL injury.

Jonjo Shelvey, Jay Spearing and summer signing Charlie Adam have all been tried out as holding midfielders, however all have failed to hit the heights of their Brazilian teammates in recent months.

Huddlestone will be competing against the likes of Scott Parker, Luka Modric, Sandro and starlet Jake Livermore when he regains fitness, meaning first team opportunities could be sparse.

The 25 year-old will be hoping to impress in the few months that he’ll have left in the Premier League this season ahead of Euro 2012, if he is to gain a place in Fabio Capello’s squad.

Liverpool may have underperformed significantly in recent seasons but will be hoping that a high calibre replacement in such a vital area of the pitch will get their 2011-12 campaign back on track.

Harry Redknapp has stated that he wishes for none of his players to leave the club this month, but should the Merseysiders meet the £10m asking prices Spurs have placed on their player, he may be forced to let go of a player who has seen an increasing amount of time on the sidelines over the past year.
