England star Jadon Sancho wants to leave Borussia Dortmund next summer, according to the Daily Mail.
This development comes as the 19-year-old has endured a rocky time of late in Germany.
In October he was fined £86,000, dropped for their crucial match against Borussia Monchengladbach, and made to train alone after he returned late from international duty with England.
Ahead of that match versus Monchengladbach, Dortmund manager Lucien Favre said his player “still has a lot to learn.”
And last weekend Sancho’s relationship with his manager took a further turn for the worse, as he was embarrassingly substituted after just 36 minutes in defeat to rivals Bayern Munich.
Favre confirmed that Sancho’s premature exit from the match was not injury related.
“He was not injured, he trained yesterday,” Favre told reporters.
“I had to go on what I was seeing and, to be honest, it was not good enough.”
Europe’s biggest clubs, such as PSG, Real Madrid and Manchester United, are reported to be circling as a result.
Liverpool, too, are thought to hold a strong interest in Sancho.
In February, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed that he was interested in the player when he left Manchester City in 2017, but felt a deal between the English rivals would have proved impossible.
“We are not blind – we saw him, we liked him, and then we think ‘Can we get him?’ No,” Klopp said.
“English clubs don’t sell to other English clubs.”
Ex-Germany and Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann recently backed his former club’s interest up:
“What I hear is that Liverpool have great interest,” Hamann told Sky Germany.
“I would imagine that next summer they could become one of the bigger interested parties.
“He’s from Manchester City and I do not know if he would come back again, and it’s a thing for Manchester United, too, if they’ve ever been at the rivals.”
It certainly appears that the current Premier League leaders have a winger high on their wish list, as we reported yesterday their possible interest in Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser, as per talkSPORT.
It’s fair to say, though, that Sancho would be a considerably higher-profile and more expensive signing than the Scot should he arrive at Anfield.
Despite his recent troubles, the explosive England international has registered an impressive three goals and five assists in eight Bundesliga starts this campaign.
He is expected to start in tonight’s European Championship qualifier against Montenegro after Raheem Sterling was dropped for his ‘disturbance in a private team area’ with Joe Gomez.
