Liverpool are to take full advantage of the current situation at Aston Villa where, quite ironically I must add, former Anfield manager Gerard Houllier is not a man particularly liked by the players.
Reports in the media today suggested that up to eight players are looking for a summer move away from Villa Park and Gabriel Agbonlahor will be a target of Liverpool for the summer.
Liverpool have not been a position to boast width over many years now – was John Barnes the last real width man before moving infield? – and Agbonlahor certainly ticks all the boxes. Whilst he may not be seen as a first eleven starter he will certainly add some good depth to the Liverpool team.
Should poor play and attitude continue at Villa then there is even a strong possibility of the Midlands side being relegated which would lead to a mass exodus. Should relegation become a formality Liverpool can be sure that Agbonlahor will cost much less than if they were to remain a Premiership side.
Houllier’s apparent strict regime is not making everyone unhappy however with Aston Villa’s back up goalkeeper Andy Marshall about to sign a new contract extension.
