Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is considering a last-minute swoop for Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge and is prepared to sell Charlie Adam AND Stewart Downing to fund the deal. Sturridge is out-of-favour at Stamford Bridge and Blues chief Roberto Di Matteo is willing to part with the England striker for £15 million. Black Cats close to signing Dempsey – Sunderland are close to their third signing in the space of seven days after it emerged a deal for Clint Dempsey is nearing completion with talks thought to be at an advanced stage with Fulham. The American is desperate to leave Craven Cottage and effectively went on strike last week in order to force through a move to Liverpool whose interest has since cooled.
