Liverpool torn between two up and coming midfield talents

Strootman currently appears to be the preferred choice of a bid from LiverpoolLiverpool FC are believed to be torn between two midfield targets and are contemplating a bid for either Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba or PSV Eindhoven’s Kevin Strootman.

Whether the Merseyside club are willing to make an offer in January is unclear and sources suggest the players are still being looked at closely before a final decision on whether a bid for one of them will be made either during the January transfer window, or wait until next summer.

Muamba has already represented England at U21 level and is a former Arsenal academy player. Although his time at the Emirates was short lived, he has made well over 100 appearances for Bolton since 2008. Strootman on the other hand is two years younger than Muamba at 21 and although the Dutchman only joined PSV this year from Utrecht, the Dutch side are willing to listen to offers, albeit only next summer.

With 10 international caps to his name already, Strootman would be the preferred choice for the majority of Liverpool fans as they continue to look for someone long term in the midfield area. Although Muamba would be considered as back-up to Lucas, neither are anywhere close to what Steven Gerrard can do but then who is?

With Liverpool’s scouts continuing to assess both talents it is no secret that the side are looking for yet more midfielders and with competition for Strootman appearing to be slim, Liverpool could be in with a very good chance of snapping the young Dutchman up for the start of next season.
