Manchester United striker Michael Owen has said it was good to get back to winning ways against Aldershot in the Carling Cup on Tuesday evening, especially after the shock 6-1 loss at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Although Owen was not part of the 18 that were selected for the City game, he claims the manner of the defeat swept through the entire squad, whether they were playing or not. However, Owen is glad to be back on the score sheet against Aldershot and adds that there was pressure on United to perform.
“There was a little bit of pressure after the City result, although no-one started at the weekend, we still had the Manchester United reputation to look after in many ways. No matter what side we put out tonight, we wanted to bounce back and thankfully we got the win.”
The Manchester United forward also adds that the banter within training has quitened slightly after the thrashing and that full focus has once again resumed.
“As you can imagine really, the usual laughs and jokes at training quietened down a little bit after Sunday and it focused our minds. Sometimes you need a kick in the teeth to get up and going again and to concentrate on the basics. It was a big kick in the teeth and we were eager to bounce back.”
Manchester United next face Everton in the Premier League where they will be looking to keep in touch with Manchester City who now have a five point lead over the current Champions.
