Louis van Gaal slams Christmas period

The Manchester United manager has not been impressed with the way Premier League fixtures are played during Christmas season

Despite dominating possession for large stretches of the game, Manchester United were only able to register a goalless draw against Tottenham Hotspur in the last league game of the year.

And, Louis van Gaal says that the busy fixture list during Christmas had a big part to play in the draw.

Indeed, the Red Devils had only 48 hours between the game against Newcastle and Tottenham and the team did struggle in the latter stages of the game at White Hart Lane.

Surprised with the Christmas schedule that is not common in most of the major leagues, Van Gaal says that such schedules do not allow players to recover in two days and then be in top shape.

The Dutchman says that the game was pretty ugly due to this and says that although it is okay, the team struggled in the second part of the game due to fatigue.

‘I said it already before the matches, but okay. It’s a culture of England. I think the human body cannot recover within 48 hours, and you have seen that the second half was a struggle.’
