According to media reports, the Reds may allow Lucas Leiva to leave the club if they land Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph.
Lucas has been linked with Inter Milan over the weekend, the Mirror’s reports links Lucas with a reunion with former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez at Napoli on loan for the rest of the season. However, Liverpool Echo’s reported over the weekend that there was no chance the 28-year-old Brazilian will be allowed to leave Merseyside on loan.
On January 10 , Brendan Rodgers also conceded that Lucas would not leave the club on loan, but failed to rule out a permanent move.
Now coming back to the Mirror’s report, they say that Liverpool will look to land Delph during this transfer window with his contract expiring at Villa Park at the end of the campaign, though as already pointed out, it seems to contradict the Echo’s reporting from the weekend.
It has been widely reported by both the national and local press that Liverpool will open contract talks with central defender Martin Skrtel.
The 30-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of next season, with the Liverpool Echo reporting the deal will be ‘long-term’. When fit, Skrtel has always been selected by manager Brendan Rodgers this season having had an impressive campaign last season.
