Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is lining up a sensational £30 million offer for Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie with the Dutchman yet to entertain the clubs offer of a new contract.

The Dutchman’s current deal expires in 2013 and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is desperate to tie him down and prevent him from becoming the next high profile player to quit the club.

Wenger now faces a fight to hold onto his prized asset with Madrid monitoring his situation at the Emirates and are reportedly preparing to make a make a bid for him in January when the transfer window re-opens for business.

28-year-old Van Persie is stalling on committing his future to Arsenal after their poor start to the season and is in no rush to sign a new deal and is remaining tight lipped on his future preferring to wait until the end of the current campaign to assess his options.

A move to the Bernabeu is a possibility with Mourinho keen to bolster his attacking options with an out-and-out striker to maintain their pressure on rivals Barcelona and take the goalscoring burden off Cristiano Ronaldo.

A record of 45 goals in his last 67 Premier League games is sure to entice Mourinho into persuading Van Persie that his success lies in Spain after a trophyless time in England.
