The Citizens have only managed to accumulate one point in the Champions League this campaign and went down 3-1 in Amsterdam last time out, which means they have it all to do in the Europe’s elite club competition now.
Even if Roberto Mancini’s men do win their next three matches, it will be tough for them to qualify from this tough group – but their aim has to be three points in this one.

Mancini will want the Etihad to be rocking tonight and the team that he selects is sure to be vital. After being frustrated at West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday, the Italian boss could make a number of changes and Sergio Aguero is likely to start in this one. The Argentinian is currently City’s top goalscorer in the competition and at 4/1 to find the net first looks well worth a bet.
What remains to be seen however, is which formation Mancini will adopt, and it still remains unclear as to the how his defence will line up, with Kolo Toure now fit and Pablo Zabaleta back to fitness.
It remains apparent, however, that Vincent Kompany is struggling to reach the heights of last season and a seasoned and reliable partner at the back looks to be important in the success of City this year.
City can be backed around the 2/5 mark and that price looks about right.
As for Ajax, after their win over City – they have every chance of progressing from Group D and another victory here could see them level on points with the team in second.
Although the Premier League outfit have been poor in the Champions League so far, the Dutch club will know just what a tough evening they are in for as not many teams come to the Etihad and take all three points.
Frank de Boer’s side come into this one on the back of a 2-0 defeat in the Eredivisie on home soil. They could have had this fixture in mind over the weekend though and despite not having the big name players that their opponents do, Ajax have shown what a superb side they can be, and a t a price of 4/1, they could yet provide another shock and dent in City’s Champions League ambitions.
This has the makings of a Champions League classic with both teams needing to take all three points. Kick-off is 7.45PM.
