Southampton face tough ask at Man City as punters pile on Citizens to secure opening Premiership win

Manchester City and Southampton go head to head in the opening Super Sunday of the season this weekend, as Ladbrokes report the Champions have been backed down to 1/5, but will offer punters a helping hand with  a new free bet offer.

With the home side heavily expected to get all three points, things look particularly difficult for Nigel Adkins side.

Roberto Mancini’s men are the reigning Champions of course and after their incredible home form last season, there aren’t too many predicting anything other than a City win in this one.

Southampton have shown their intent in the transfer market though and should not be taken lightly. Having already broken their transfer record to sign Jay Rodriguez, they are reportedly close to signing Gaston Ramirez from Bolgona for £11.8m.

Weekend Premiership : Ladbrokes Free Bet Offer

The football is back this weekend, with some superb matches to get stuck in to as Ladbrokes announce a new free bets offer worth £50/€50 to all customers to spend on any match! They’ll also refund bets if the game finishes 0-0! Claim here!

This shows that Nigel Adkins doesn’t think his team are in the Premier League to make up the numbers. Gone are the days when the newly promoted teams think about survival and survival only.

They will of course see reaching 40 points or more as a major priority, but there is no doubt that Southampton go into the new campaign with plenty of belief. Despite a mixed pre-season, they will hope to take the momentum from back to back promotions into the next few months.

There is no getting away from how tough a test it is for them on Sunday though. City have an incredibly strong squad and will be motivated from the start of this season to show why they are still the team to beat.

The beauty of Mancini’s squad is that they can afford one or two players to have an off day and still have more than enough for three points. Blessed with plenty of attacking talent, they will hope to send a message to their rivals on Sunday afternoon.

The Citizens have already been in competitive action this season too, with a 3-2 Community Shield win over Chelsea last weekend. Therefore, they should be sharp and ready to go come 4pm on Sunday afternoon.
