The player may have been linked with a move to the Premier League for the past few seasons but it looks as if the English top flight will miss out on Keisuke Honda with him looking likely to join Lazio.
Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal have all shown interest in the attacking playmaker in recent seasons and a January move to England was looking possible, however those plans appear to be scrapped now.
It’s being reported that the Serie A side have already agreed a €14m fee with CSKA Moscow and the midfielder is only to pass a medical at the club before signing a deal.
Commenting on the matter, the 25 year-old spoke to Japanese newspaper Nikkan Sports, stating: “It’s true that I’m positive about a move to Lazio. The clubs are in the final stage of negotiations.”
However, other candidates for his signature will be buoyed by his other comments, with Honda adding: “But I haven’t made a formal agreement with the club yet, and in today’s football world anything can happen up to the last hour of the transfer window.”
The Japanese international is currently carrying a knee injury but it won’t be expected to keep him from completing his medical.
The news comes after it was recently unveiled that QPR are very likely to tie up the signature of current Lazio forward, Djibril Cissé, pending a successful medical.
The Italian giants may not balance the books with the interchange of these particular two players but the capture of Honda will undoubtedly mean the team have signed a creative star capable of supplying endless ammunition to those in front of him.
