Man Utd v Southampton Odds: Saints look too big to ignore for win in Manchester

The latest Man Utd v Southampton odds as Paddy Power report that Southampton are being backed into 11/2 in the betting to pick up the away win.

Manchester United are labelled as 4/7 favourites by Paddy Power to beat Southampton as the defending champions turn to their younger stars to get the season back on track.

It has not been the greatest of starts for David Moyes at Old Trafford and the Scot will be hoping to return from the international break with a much needed win against in-form Southampton.

United currently sit 9th in the Premier League with the reigning champions having already fallen 6 points behind leaders Arsenal over the first 7 games.

Manchester United’s defence has come under question in recent weeks, it is the attacking line-up that is getting much of the attention ahead of the game with several players all pushing for a start upfront.

Both Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie score multiple times for England and Netherlands during the international break showing their back to top form although the brace from Adnan Januzaj in the 3-1 win against Sunderland could see the Belgian winger feature at some in the tie.

In midfield, United will be without Tom Cleverly who has failed to recover from the calf injury that saw him ruled out of England’s game against Poland and will miss Saturday’s game.

Southampton are enjoying a great start to the Premier League with Mauricio Pochettino’s side a surprise 4th having only lost one of their first 7 games so far this season.

However, the international break has been cruel to several of Southampton’s top stars who are in a race to be declared fit for Saturday’s tie.

One of the main concerns focuses on goalkeeper Artur Boruc who is nursing a hamstring injury from training with Poland and may face a late fitness test ahead of the game.

England U-21 defender Luke Shaw will also be a potential doubt for the game having suffered from a virus during the international break which forced him to withdraw from the squad last week.

The Saints will be hoping that both Boruc and Shaw recover in time for the game at Old Trafford as they are part of the best defence in the Premier League which has only conceded 2 goals all season.

It’s a formidable record for Southampton to have and they will need to ensure that they carry on this strong form against the likes of Rooney and Van Persie on Saturday afternoon as they look to get south points from their trip up north.
