Premiership League leaders Manchester City will have to go head to head with French Ligue 1 outfit PSG in their quest to bring Napoli striker Edinson Cavani to North England with both clubs preparing deals worth close to £40m.
The 24 year old has been smashing in the goals for the Italian side since joining in 2010 and could be considered as one of the reasons City failed to make this seasons Champions League knock-out stages. With over 30 international caps to his name for Uruguay, the former Palermo striker appears to be hot property and it is believed Manchester City are looking to offer a deal similar to that which brought Segio Aguerro to the side during the summer.
With Napoli’s progression to the Champions League knock-out stages a deal in January would be very much impossible however once they have managed to offload Tevez they will look to find another top striker to add to their ranks. Although this could prove to be counter-productive with Balotelli finding form, and Dzeko and Aguerro continuing to find the net, another striker, regardless of how good does appear to be required.
PSG are now a side with big cash too and they will not lose out easily, having already pipped Chelsea to Javier Pastore last summer and their might in the transfer market will be something that Manchester City will find a challenge.
