Manchester City manager Mancini unhappy despite win

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini says that his team must improve, even though they cruised to a 3-0 win against Wigan yesterday.

New signing Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick and Carlos Tevez, recently removed from his role as club captain, missed a penalty in the comfortable win.

However, Mancini was unhappy with the amount of chances that his City side passed up:

“We had 15 chances in the first half and we scored only one goal – this is a problem because the game can change any moment,” the Italian said.

“Next time it’s better if we close out the game in the first half. We need to improve because we have started the season very well but the season will be long.”

He added that converting their chances was of the utmost of importance if City want to get their hands on the Barclays Premier League trophy this season:

“If we want to arrive at the end of the season still at the top we need to improve.”

Mancini also declared that he was pleased with the contribution of Tevez, despite his missed penalty: “Carlo is not 100% at the moment but I am happy for him because for me he played very well with Sergio.”

He continued:

“He missed a penalty but this can happen – usually he scores.”

“It was important for him to start, to play and to play well and maybe in two or three games he will be 100%.”
