The Manchester City portion of Nedum Onuoha’s career looks destined to end soon with a number of Premier League clubs showing increased interest in acquiring his signature.
The Sky Blues’ youth product has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at the Etihad Stadium and has made only two Carling Cup appearances for the side this season.
After spending a successful spell on loan at Sunderland last season, interest in the defender is high, with Wolves and West Brom already submitting bids worth around £2.5m.
However, the story is far from written in the case of Nedum Onuoha as due to his relatively low asking price, other parties are reportedly preparing bids of their own.
One of those parties interested is Stoke City, who are hoping that their advantage of being able to offer European football will provide an edge in the deal.
Sunderland are another club looking to re-sign the full-back on a permanent basis, with Blackburn Rovers also said to be considering a bid should funds be made available to Steve Kean.
Although the 25 year-old isn’t one of the brightest sparks in a glittering Manchester City squad, Onuoha has shown his Premier League competence on more than one occasion in recent seasons making his meagre valuation of £2.5m all the more surprising.
The Nigerian-born defender’s form was so good for a period in 2011 that some were calling for Fabio Capello to give Onuoha his first England cap; calls that went unanswered.
Apart from all the wage demands and personal terms to agree to, placement is another big hurdle in Onuoha’s switch as his mother is very settled in Manchester and a deal may hinge on the club’s proximity to the area.
