Manchester City outcast linked with Championship switch

Manchester City frontman, Roque Santa Cruz, could make a surprise drop to the Championship and sign for Leeds United, according to his father.

Aproniano Santa Cruz, Roque’s father and agent, sees the Championship descent as an ideal opportunity for his son to revitalise his career.

The junior Santa Cruz has become frustrated at the lack of first team opportunity at the Etihad Stadium, spending the second half of last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers.

The 30 year-old is keen on a move away from Manchester City and is apparently striving to stay in the English game.

Speaking to Paraguayan newspaper ABC, Aproniano Santa Cruz commented: “He has a contract with City until June 2013 and is available for what the club decides to do.”

The player’s father added: “The second division is very competitive in England, with powerful teams in huge stadiums. There are important teams like Leeds United, but his future will be decided by Manchester.”
