Manchester City ready to launch bid for Spanish international

Reports are suggesting that big-spending Manchester City could be prepared to splash out on another member of the Spanish national side when they go in Valencia asset, Jordi Alba, in the January transfer window.

The speculation comes as rather surprising news barely five months after the Citizens signed Gael Clichy over the summer for a reported £7m.

Clichy isn’t short of competition either, with Aleksandar Kolarov chalking up more than his share of appearances for the Blues, as the pair continue to work in a rotation system that sees them both gain a good deal of game time.

Rumours are beginning to surface that Kolarov, who joined the club 18 months ago, could be the subject of European interest in 2012, with the Serbian international becoming the apparent target of Champions League title holders, Barcelona.

Alba can, however, function in more than just the left-back position and is known to have starred as a wide midfielder for Valencia, doing a more than capable job in the role.

The 22 year-old has been with Los Che for over four years now, arriving in 2007 where he finished his youth training before migrating into the senior side.

The nippy left-back is also a fully-fledged Spanish international after winning his first cap for the World Cup holders two months ago, and has since gone on to play three times for the side.

Valencia won’t be keen on letting go of one of their prized assets, with the youngster being tipped by many as the long-term left-back for the Spanish national team, and so it’s suspected City will have to shell out £20m for the versatile defender.
