Manchester City’s Nigel De Jong hopeful captain will stay

Tevez's future is undecided as yet but homesickness is the reasons behind him wishing to leaveManchester City midfielder Nigel De Jong is hopeful that current team captain Carlos Tevez will remain at the club but adds that he is uncertain as to what the Argentine’s future holds.

Carlos Tevez scored two goals this week to move Manchester City right into contention for a third placed Premiership finish and is currently the leagues top goal scorer with 20 goals. However, the former West Ham and Manchester United striker has complained about home sickness this season and De Jong believes this will make the captains decision.

“Everybody hopes Carlos will stay, but it’s hard to say what will happen at the moment, it’s not a case of him wanting to go somewhere else. It’s a family thing for him. He has made it clear to the squad that he still sees himself as a Manchester City player and we hope he will continue to be.”

De Jong added.

“If the gaffer has said he’s staying, it’s a great pleasure to hear. But we’ll just have to hope and see what happens next season. The way he played against Stoke underlines the quality he has.”

De Jong also explained the importance of keeping Tevez at Eastlands.

“It is important for us and the club that he stays here. Everyone knows what kind of player Carlos is, how important he is for the squad. It’s not only his goalscoring, it’s also his work-rate for the team.”
