Manchester United and Chelsea remain keen on Valencia’s versatile left footer Jordi Alba who is available at the price should the Spanish side receive any serious offers.
The 22 year old is primarily a left-back but can fill the left midfield role too and could be a sign that both Chelsea and Manchester United are looking at the long term left-back position to replace the ageing Ashley Cole and Patrice Evra respectively.
Alba had been on loan at Gimnastic for the 2008 and 2009 season and the youngster has picked up two international caps for Spain which at the current time is reasonably impressive given the quality of the Spanish squad. Enquiries were made last summer by numerous parties after seeing the defender make some impressive Champions League appearances however all offers were turned down at the time.
There is a belief though that an offer upwards of £9m would be enough to tempt Valencia into a sale although January would seem unlikely with both Chelsea and Manchester United having to remain patient until the end of the season before making a serious enquiry.
