A year’s worth of transfer speculation may finally come to a head this summer when Manchester United complete a move to sign Adryan Tavares.
The teenager was heavily linked with an Old Trafford switch for much of 2011 with the Premier League title holders apparently offering Tavares a trial at the club.
The 17 year-old has impressed for Flamengo – whose youth system Tavares rose through – over recent years and United are now hoping to lure the starlet away from the Brazilian outfit.
Tavares also made an impression at last year’s South American championships where he starred for the Brazilian Under-17 side.
Although Paul Scholes has come out of retirement to help United in their injury pinch, the former England international isn’t expect to play past the end of the current campaign and Tavares would be signed as a prospect for the future.
Ravel Morrison recently left Old Trafford to join West Ham after a supposed wage dispute and with Paul Pogba set to leave on a free transfer this summer, young central midfielders will be more scarce than they are now.
Both youths were being tipped for bright futures with the Premier League outfit and were just about making their way into first-team experience; something Tavares will be hoping for also.
It’s unknown at this point how much Sir Alex Ferguson’s side will have to pay for Tavares’ signature but his price-tag is expected to be somewhere in the region of £1.5m.
