Manchester United are believed to be in the running for top international striker and Chelsea target Gonzalo Higuain with sources suggesting that the Old Trafford have held talks with his current club Real Madrid.
The 23 year old forward is held in high regard across the World however there are suggestions that the young Argentine could be prepared for a move with Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho preferring to use Frenchman Karim Benzema as his main striker.
Chelsea are prepared to offer up to £45m for Higuain, a figure that is unlikely to attract Manchester United and with AC Milan also interested, United’s interest in the player not go much further than enquiries as they look to find a replacement for Dimitar Berbatov who’s contract comes to an end in the summer.
Chelsea though are aware that the at least one of their strikers will probably leave during January with Malouda, Drogba, Anelka and Saloman Kalou all available for the right price.
With Chelsea’s form currently poor and Roman Abramovich’s impatience when it comes to playing top quality football his record suggests he would certainly be ready to splash some cash on a top forward but will only do so once a few of the current crop are shipped on.
With there being no clear indication that Higuain would like a move to the Premiership, other European sides are likely to be monitoring th situation very closely.
