Manchester United considering Borussia Dortmund alternative

With speculation gazes firmly fixed on the immediate club future of German starlet Mario Gotze, Manchester United are opting to switch their attention to his teammate, Shinji Kagawa, instead.

It looks increasingly certain that Gotze will still be a Borussia Dortmund player in 2013, which has ignited United into action after the club appear to have realized that their attempts to sign the youngster will prove ultimately fruitless.

Despite Kagawa’s ability, 19 year-old Gotze attracts most of the major headlines with the current Bundesliga title-holders, however it’s arguable that the German international may not have had such a successful senior career at the club had it not been for a very successful partnership with the Japanese midfielder.

Since signing for Die Borussen in the summer 2010, Kagawa has made over 50 appearances for Dortmund scoring 19 goals in the process.

The 22 year-old has quickly become a key part of the side’s creative talent and has recover well from a metatarsal injury he suffered last year, making 24 appearances so far this campaign.

Manchester United are experiencing a shortage of midfielders at the moment and continue to be linked with just about every proven playmaker across Europe as well as outside of it.

The absences of Tom Cleverley and Darren Fletcher have taken their toll on the current Premier League champions who have looked fragile in the central midfield area of the pitch since losing the pair in November and December, respectively.

Kagawa would cost the Red Devils an affordable sum of £15m, and with the ensuing arrival of Marco Reus at the Westfalenstadion, the Japanese international could be tempted by a move away.
