Manchester United defender looking to show that City result just “one bad day”

Vidic believes the 6-1 defeat to City has made them work harder in trainingManchester United centre-back Nemanja Vidic has claimed that it was important not to let the 6-1 defeat to Manchester City affect the players and the Serbian international believes they proved that against Everton at the weekend.

Manchester United defeated Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park although it must be said that withou De Gea, it could have been yet another defeat for the Old Trafford unit.

Vidic insists that losing to manchester City was just a one off and one bad day and that the result has made them work harder for the up and coming fixtures.

“It was important to show the 6-1 didn’t affect the players and I think we showed that at Everton, it was important to defend like a team and get back to playing as a team. In the last 20 minutes against City we didn’t do that. That’s why we were disappointed. But since then we’ve come back to the way we used to play.”

The Manchester United defender continued:

“When you lose a derby, especially by that scoreline, it is difficult to take but we have shown character. Hopefully we can prove that the derby was just one bad day.”

Vidic also suggested that training has meant the whole squad have now been working harder to try and close the gap on league leaders Manchester City.

“We haven’t come to training with our heads down. We have worked harder because we want to play better. This is the right mentality to have. When you lose games you can always look at the things you did wrong and what you can improve.”

Vidic added:

“Losing that game was difficult but it’s important to look forward. Even when you win you can’t spend time celebrating, you have to focus on the next game.”

Sir Alex Ferguson’s men next face Otelul Galati in the Champions League followed by a home tie against Steve Bruce’s Sunderland three days later.
