Manchester United forward feared for Old Trafford future

Michael Owen has revealed that he was completely unsure whether or not he would receive a new contract at Manchester United at the end of last season.

The striker didn’t make a massive impact with the Premier League champions, failing to tie down a place in the starting setup.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Owen stated: “Last year, I didn’t feature as much but still had some great times. But overall, last season was disappointing from an appearances point of view.”

Ultimately, the 31 year-old was kept on at Old Trafford and was delighted to stick with the club, noting: “For him to say he wanted to keep me was enough for me. I have loved every minute here. It remains to be seen what type of role I have throughout the season but the season is still young.”

Owen is expected to make his first appearance this season against Leeds United, as the Red Devils travel toElland Roadin a Carling Cup fixture.
