Manchester United make enquiries into Napoli ace

Manchester United have made enquiries into the availability of Napoli’s Edinson Cavani, possibly spelling the end for Old Trafford’s current top goal scorer Dimitar Berbatov.

Cavani has been under the microscope of numerous clubs this season as the 24 netted 26 goals in 35 league appearances for the Serie A side. It was at first understood that Manchester City were keen on the Uruguayan however their interest has lessened, seeing Fiorentina’s Alessio Cerci as a much more likely target.

For Manchester United it could take their total spending close to £70m with Phil Jones of Blackburn already signing, on top of Ashley Young from Aston Villa, and David De Gea who is all but set for a move to Old Trafford pending a medical. With Cavani valued close to £22m – despite Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis’ tongue in cheek valuation of €100m – it would mean Sir Alex Ferguson’s biggest transfer spree for some time and many still suggest he will not be finished there with the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Wesley Sneijder still under the clubs radar.
